Fishing Seasons

The Blue Marlin season is from May until October with July, August and October being the hottest months. The best time for the blue marlin is during the week of the full moon. Fish become extremely aggressive during the peak months, but the blue marlin can be caught all year round. The small game season is from October to April. During this time you may catch anything from mahi-mahi , wahoo, kingfish, sailfish and white marlin. It is common that you have multiple strikes and hook ups. The crew will provide stand-up gear for those who want the challenge.

The following is a generalized description of what fish specie we expect to catch by trolling and baiting on the Caribbean ocean surface within a 30 mile radius of the Morro fort.

From January to April, the Mahi-mahi are more plentiful. We usually catch Mahi-mahi everyday and on exceptional days we land 10 or more. In January the Mahi-mahi start off averaging 10 lbs. As the season progresses they get larger and get up to 20 to 30 lbs. There are Yellow/Blue Fin Tuna.

From May to June, the Marlin/Billfish season begins. There are more Marlin around. When the Marlin schools show up, the average size is 120 to 180 lbs.

From October to December, The Wahoo are being caught more regularly. A few Mahi-mahi.

These are the basic broad changes that occur throughout the year. When you go fishing for big game in the Caribbean, each fishing day is different. You never really know what will strike your lures and baits. The ocean is a hard lady to understand and her occupants are just as difficult. But we do our best to catch you fish every day.
